BAD member awaiting court order leaves to complete MBA

Bermudians Against the Draft member Jamel Hardtman is heading abroad next month to continue his studies.

Mr. Hardtman, a HOTT 1075 radio personality, is leaving Bermuda for Johnson and Wales University in the U.S. to take a MBA in Global Business Leadership.

The course is set to last three years and Mr. Hardtman has no plans to come back to the island after he has completed his masters.

The 28-year-old was arrested earlier this month by Regiment Police for “failing to perform his military duties”.

But he was released after an injunction was granted in the Supreme Court by Puisne Judge Ian Kawaley.

The court order means that Mr. Hardtman and fellow BAD member Lamont Marshall cannot be arrested until a court hearing, which has not been assigned a date yet.

Mr. Hardtman told the Sun: “I can not wait to get on with my studies and put the last couple of months behind me.

“There are more important issues than presenting myself to the Regiment.

“I want to get back to what I want to do and better myself.

“My hope is that after three years of my course I will go somewhere where I have a free choice about what I do.

“At the moment I do not think Bermuda deserves the benefits of educated young men.

“Maybe in three years conscription will be gone and we will have leaders that will understand that it is wrong.

“I am not sure where I will go after the course but I have a British passport so there are options open to me.

“For me my education is priority. The Regiment has continued to threaten my pursuit of having an education. It has got personal.”
