FRIDAY, MAR. 30: Publishers have pulled the plug on the holiday magazine Destination Bermuda.

Chief Executive Chris Ralston told the Bermuda Sun low advertising revenue had made the product unviable.

The annual publication is part of a series of Destination magazines which are based in London.

Flagship

The Bermuda edition was launched as Destination Publication’s flagship magazine in 1990.

And since then a series of new titles including Destination Cayman, Destination Aruba and Destination Bahamas have also been published by the firm.

But a significant dip in advertising revenue in Bermuda over the last year has forced the company to cancel the upcoming 2012 edition.

Clients of the magazine have been informed of the move.

Mr Ralston said: “I am saddened and disappointed that having published Destination Bermuda for the past 21 years that it has become unviable to continue to produce this magazine.”

Mr Ralston confirmed that the other Destination magazines were doing well and would continue to be published.

And he did not rule out relaunching the Bermuda magazine if there was an upturn in the economy.

The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce has formed a Publishing Division to restrict competition from overseas advertising companies.
