The tournament, which will take place in Bermuda in April, has attracted some of the top cricketers from around the world - including World greats like Aussie wicket-keeper Ian Healy, West Indies Joel ‘Big Bird’ Garner and Robin Smith from England.
The classic was officially launched this week amid A PR fanfare at the Hamilton Princess Hotel and has also hit the headlines in U.K. broadsheets like the Guardian and the Times.
The teams involved include England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, India, Australia and Bermuda.
The troublesome pitch at the National Centre will also get a makeover as Notts Sport is supplying the tournament with one of its internationally renowned artificial cricket pitches, which is being installed onto the existing natural turf — ensuring that the world’s leading players can enjoy a high-quality consistent surface throughout the event.
The pitch has been under fire for not being up to international standards, including comments by West Indian legend Lance Gibbs.
The event will also be be covered by the U.K. production company Sunset+Vine, who will produce a one hour highlights programme.
Channel Five (U.K.) is joined by the following companies already committed to screen the event: ESPN STAR Sports (Asia), Ten Sports (Asia, Middle East), Zee (India), CMC (Caribbean), Sky TV (New Zealand), MNET Supersport (Africa) and Fox Sports (Australia) with more to follow. On island coverage in Bermuda is guaranteed by BBCL and a specially shot feature of the Classic is scheduled for the Gillette World Sport programme.[[In-content Ad]]
