Two young thugs face life behind bars today after being convicted of the murder of a talented footballer.

Devon Hewey and Jay Dill were both found guilty of the premeditated murder of Randy Robinson this afternoon.

Prosecutors said both men are members of the 42-gang, based in the St Monica's Road, and had targeted Mr Robinson because he had cousins who were part of the rival Parkside gang.

Mr Robinson, 22, who was not a gang member himself, was gunned down as he walked along Border Lane North on March 31, 2011.

Dill, 23, and Hewey, 24, were arrested in the early hours of April 1 at Mr Hewey’s Palmetto Road home.

Traces of gunshot residue were found on a jacket belonging to Mr Dill.

While images of the men throwing up 42 gang signals with their hands were also presented to the jury as part of the prosecution's case.

Both men had denied any part in the murder.

Dill, whose brother Kofi is a convicted firearms handler, claimed he was outside the Boat Club at the time of the shooting, while Hewey never took the stand to give his version of events.

Neither showed much emotion as the verdicts were returned this afternoon.

Both men were convicted of premeditated murder and using a firearm to commit an indictable offence.

They were remanded in custody and led away by prison guards.

They will be sentenced at a later date.
