Nahki Wells wants to cement his place in history — by becoming the first Bermudian to score at Wembley.
In their combined three appearances at the famous stadium, Shaun Goater (with Rotherham in 96 and with Man City in 99) and Kyle Lightbourne (with Stoke in 2000) didn’t lose, but they both failed to find the net.
Wells’ appearance on Sunday will, if selected, be the first major English cup final for a Bermudian player. But he wants to go one better by giving all his fellow islanders who have made the trip over something to really treasure — a goal. In a special message for those who will join inside Wembley on Sunday, Wells told the Bermuda Sun: “Come out and enjoy it. These opportunities for Bermudians don’t come around too often.
“It’s great to have all the support from all the Bermudians, a lot of people might be coming over who might know me but I might not know them and it’s great that I’ve got the country’s backing at the moment.
“Hopefully I can add to the list of Bermudian players who have played at Wembley and hopefully I can be the first Bermudian to score at Wembley — and they’ll be there to witness it.”
Wells has also promised, if Bradford win, that all Bermudians are welcome to seek him out for a celebratory drink.
“Enjoy the cup feeling at Wembley, make the most of it, come up to London, get a tour of the stadium, learn about the two clubs and afterwards hopefully all the Bermudians we can have a party.
“Everyone will be invited. It will be nice! Hopefully, if we win we’ll be at some local hotel and everyone can come up for drinks and we’ll go from there!”
