TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5: A variety of visual artists and creative thinkers will share their ideas at the second PechaKucha night Bermuda on Thursday, February 7.
The event, organized by Nicky Gurret and Aideen Ratteray Pryse, will take place at the Chewstick Lounge on the corner of Court and Elliott Streets, Hamilton. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 6:30pm. The evening aims to bring attention to “out-of-the-box ideas on any topic of the invited speakers’ choice. Those chosen to speak on the night are Tiago Garcia, social entrepreneur; Colleen Sinclair, interior designer; Larry Mills, building enthusiast; Alex Potts, lawyer; Erica Smith, urban planner; Manuel Palacio, artist; Robert Zuill, filmmaker and Tiffany Paynter, poet.
The concept of PechaKucha was started by a pair of Tokyo-based architects who wanted to get visual visionaries to come together and share their ideas. The format is a “20x20” where 20 images are projected on a screen, each for 20 seconds, while the presenter talks along with the images. Each speaker has only six minutes and 40 seconds to speak in order to keep the evening flowing.
“The great thing about PKNs is that they are concise and rapid,” said Nicky Gurret. “The presentation is automated, so there is no “Can you go back one?” or “Next slide, please”. And, with just 20 seconds per slide, each presenter has exactly six minutes and 40 seconds for his or her idea.”
Aideen Ratteray Pryse added: “We aim to hold at least four each year. Our agreement with the Tokyo architects calls for us to do that, so if you have a neat idea you’ve been keeping to yourself but you’d like to share it, now is the time!”
The event is open to everyone and admission is free, though donations are accepted. Follow PKNs in Bermuda on Facebook — PechaKucha Night Bermuda — for updates and information.
