Stanley Paris’ mood is buoyant after picking up pace in his round-the-world record bid.
The 76-year-old former Bermuda hotelier is just a week and a half into his attempt to become the oldest and fastest person to sail the globe solo.
The record currently stands at 150 days set by Dodge Morgan.
Initial light winds saw him get off to a slow start after crossing the start line east of St David’s.
But Paris is now hurtling along, heading south east in the Atlantic Ocean.
He wrote on his blog: “At long last I am getting good winds and have begun to head SE.”
He added: “From noon yesterday to noon today I have covered 252 miles — a record for the trip thus far. Dodge’s best was 225 on the entire voyage.
“After a slow start I am closing on him.”
