A 25-year-old man today appeared in court charged with receiving a stolen pit bull, which was put down earlier this month.
Josef Smith, pleaded not guilty to dishonestly receiving a chocolate-coloured pit bull worth $1,800 belonging to Reyel Bowen between October 21 and December 3.
No details of the case were given. But the dog in question is understood to be Hershey the pit bull who was euthanized by animal wardens earlier this month amid public protests.
Mr Smith was granted $2,000 bail with one surety and will stand trial on April 4.
Hershey was stolen from his family’s home in October and was later found by police on December 3.
The dog, which was a banned breed, was ultimately put down on December 6.
