Chris and Ashley Estwanik will look to defend their title in the 37th Annual Fairmont to Fairmont race after winning both the adult male and female categories last year.
The race, which will cover 7.2 miles between the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and the Fairmont Southampton, attracts competitors from across the globe and is considered the beginning of running season.
Ashley is optimistic about her chances and ready to go, telling the Bermuda Sun: “I think I should be good, I’m feeling confident. I’ve done a few races in the last couple of weeks, so yeah, looking forward to it.
“I think I’m a little bit better shape at this point than I was last year. I’ve been doing more speed work as opposed to the longer stuff because last year at this point I was in the middle of marathon training.
“Just got to make sure the holiday season isn’t too fun,” she added with a laugh.
The race will also include a three-member relay team category (men’s, women’s, and mixed), a Junior 3K race, and a walking category.
Last year, in addition to Chris and Ashley’s double win, Iziah Tucker and Jessica Marshall won the 8-10 category, Alex Pilgrim and Lynsey Parmer won the 11-12 category, and Jahmari Sutton and Amanda Foy were first in the 13-15 age group.
The race will be held January 5.
