A 37-year-old man with a 20-year rap sheet was today jailed for two years after he admitted attacking his estranged girlfriend.
Tio Weeks of Devonshire approached Beverly Pitt at 6:30am on Saturday as she was leaving her Warwick home to go to work.
Ms Pitt drove to the entrance of her street when she noticed her bike tire was soft.
When she went to check it, Weeks came over and said: “I love you. No one’s going to have you.”
He then grabbed her by the neck and held her down to the ground.
Crown counsel Maria Sofianos told the court Weeks began to punch the complainant while she was screaming for help.
He said: “I’m going to kill you because the police can only keep me for so long”.
Weeks continued to punch Ms Pitt and she feared she was going to die.
The defendant finally stopped the attack and Ms Pitt was able to get on her bike and ride a short distance away, where she called the police.
Ms Pitt attended hospital and was treated for minor injuries. Weeks was arrested not far from the incident.
Ms Sofianos told the court Weeks’ convictions date back to 1993 when he was convicted for assault.
Interrupting the proceedings, Weeks said: “Do whatever today and sentence me and put that in the newspaper.
“It’s bulls**t, it’s bulls**t.
“With all due respect, look in your book Mr Warner and send me up the road.”
Weeks walked out of the room into the cell area as Mr Warner sentenced him to two years imprisonment for assault and threatening words.
