Michael Outerbridge, Thomas Johnson, Judith Davidson, an unknown caller and Colin Selley helped identify last week's piece of Bermuda history (see right photo).
The man in the picture is Colin Selley himself, and Mr. Selley believed the photo was from the early 1980s when he was the head of the Bermuda Department of Tourism.
However, other callers seemed sure that it was taken earlier, in the 1960s or 1970s, when tourism was run by the Bermuda Trade Development Board (of which Mr. Selley was a part).
Judith Davidson reckoned the photo was taken inside the Dept. of Tourism office as you can see posters (or murals) of Bermuda between the curtains. She also recognized the lady on the far right as Susan Curtis, an artist and model who owned The Windjammer Gallery on the corner of Reid and King St.
Thomas Johnson said of Colin Selley that “he was [also] an outstanding tennis player” and represented Bermuda in Tennis at the PanAm games in Winnipeg, Canada in 1967.
Time to relax: These construction workers enjoy a cold one after a hard day’s work on the job site. But who are they and what building were they working on? If you have any clues that can help us, please contact photo editor Gary Foster at 278-1880 or e-mail him at [email protected]
