Could Scandal’s Olivia Pope help the OBA’s PR?

Buckle up for another 6.0 minutes of random observations.

A few months ago I noticed a lot of ladies’ Facebook statuses saying #scandal has returned or #scandaholic.

Silly me decides to see what this fuss is about. I turn on the TV to catch the last few minutes of the season premiere of Scandal.

So what do I witness? The President’s wife giving a him tongue-lashing about his mistress Olivia Pope. Turns out the President has caught a case of ‘chocolate addiction’ and can’t keep his mind or hands off of his crisis manager.

Okay so the president is bopping his assistant. Nothing new in that. Remember JFK? And Bill Clinton? The twist for many, is that the president is white and the assistant is black. Now for many black men, it somehow seems a sticking point to see a black woman seemingly sleeping with a white man to move herself up the corporate ladder.

Whilst many black women seem addicted to the plot of the show, it seems a tad bit ironic that many black women get up in arms, when they see a successful black man married to anyone other than a black woman.

Mixed race relationships and children are on the rise. Perhaps I need to do a full column on the subject?

If all else fails, Olivia Pope could maybe get a job in Bermuda managing the multiple PR disasters of the OBA. Maybe that’s what I will give them for Christmas.

Christmas parties

So, it is Yuletide season again.

Black Friday is over and it is all about bouncing from party to party every weekend.

There is no question as to which Christmas party is the most popular. By far, it is the BPSU party that sets the benchmark.

Year after year it gets bigger with more and more attendees. Cars parked as far away as MarketPlace in Paget always signifies that Stonington is rammed to the gills. If your name is not on the guest list you are basically screwed.

With the OBA placing BPSU members on furlough days, I wonder if that will have any bearing on this year’s turnout? Who am I kidding? We will be partying like its 1999 all over again.

Love thy Neighbour

As we all know a monster typhoon hit the Philippines, resulting in the death of thousands of persons and destruction of entire communities. The awful pictures speak for themselves.

There seem to be a split of minds whether or not the government should have given $50,000 towards helping the relief efforts.

I am no supporter of the OBA, however I fully support anyone in need. A large proportion of my time in the Bermuda Regiment was spent flying to various islands helping in hurricane relief efforts.

I have seen firsthand the storm devastation of The British Virgin Islands, Monserrat and Jamaica.

After our hurricanes Bermuda has had to rely on help from our Caribbean neighbours to help us get back on track. So I implore on us to continue to help the Filipino Association however we can.
