Let me start by saying that I do not go to the gym although I have been talking about getting in shape for some time now.
I even invested in some clothes and shoes to begin a zumba class, which I never did start.
That being said I do plan to get my act together soon and do something to get the weight off and the body in shape.
I may even decide to join a gym and when I do I will be armed with all of the information I need.
I have indeed been doing my research and I thought I would share ten things people should consider before entering into a contract for a health club/gym.
1. Check with your doctor before you begin your fitness programme. Most local health clubs will give you some sort of assessment before you begin but it is always a good idea to go to your doctor first and discuss your fitness plans.
2. Shop around to determine which facility has the best programme, equipment and price for YOU. You should choose a facility that is in a convenient location and meets your health and fitness goals at a price you can afford to pay.
3. Carefully consider the membership cost and whether you can afford to make the necessary payments during the life of the contract (especially if you lose your job).
4. Carefully examine any potential health club for cleanliness and the condition of the equipment.
5. Conduct site visits during the times you are likely to go to determine if it is overcrowded during those times.
6. Check the qualifications of all instructors.
7. Talk to members of the health club you are considering and get their feedback. Have a prepared list of questions and concerns and ask several people their opinion.
8. Read your contract carefully. Make sure you understand the cancellation and refund policies before you sign.
9. Be sure about which services are included with your membership and which services are an added cost.
10. Ask about any discounts, special offers, corporate discounts, sample classes or trial memberships.
If you are considering joining a gym for the first time or your current membership is about to expire please take the time to shop around and remember that your gym should appeal to your personality and budget and over all it should motivate you to come back on a regular basis.
