Monday is the new Thursday thanks to the Fairmont Hamilton Princess’s Cocktail Culture evenings.

Each week through the summer, the hotel has been opening up a little bar in the lobby serving a variety of freshly made cocktails at a surprisingly reasonable price.

At just $15 you can try three new cocktails — $5 drinks are pretty hard to come by these days, especially when it comes to cocktails. At normal rates many establishments charge a little under $15 for just one.

I was invited to try it out and happily obliged.

Our friendly waiter, Winston Lee, introduced himself with a classic Bermuda welcoming smile and showed us the menu.

First up was Amaretto Sunset, made up of Amaretto, spiced rum, orange juice, lemon juice and Grenadine.

I told Winston that I wasn’t all that keen on Amaretto and he quietly took note.

The cocktail he served me only had the slightest hint of the bitter almondy taste. Coupled with the sweetness of the spiced rum and Grenadine it paired up nicely with the citrussy flavours of the lemon and orange.

It was a refreshing drink and a good size too, these are not just sample
portions.

Next up was the unimaginatively-named Lemon — Lime. As boring as the name was, the flavour livened up the palette. I love my citrus and this drink was full of zing. It was made up of citrus vodka, Grenadine, Rosa’s Lime and Sprite. It wasn’t all that different from the previous drink but without the Amaretto and spice it was more refreshing.

Last up was the Bermuda Triangle which was basically the same as a swizzle without the bitters and Grenadine. It was a simple, pleasant tasting drink enjoyed overlooking the Great Sound.

These nights out with friends can be enhanced so much by the waiting staff and when encouraged, Winston told us a few entertaining stories about his 40 years at the hotel.

Cocktail Culture is a great idea to get people out on what is likely a quieter night of the week.

I have to admit after the weekend was a little soon for me to be delving back into the drinking antics.

I think it is a fabulous idea for tourists but some locals have been coming along, probably to take advantage the cheap prices.

Cocktail Culture takes placeevery Monday from 5:30pm to 7pm and run until the end of the summer.
