A potential college student was today given a conditional discharge after he admitted possession of a bladed article.

Lavonte Williams, 20, was stopped on August 8 on Victoria Street when police saw him riding erratically.

During a search, police found a sharply pointed article on him and arrested him.

In court today, Williams said: “I was using the article for work purposes.

“That day, I went home from work early.

“I didn’t know it was illegal. It was for carpentry.”

Williams told the court he is supposed to go away to school in October.

His probation officer, Clifford Stevens told the court he has been accepted to the New England Institute ofTechnology for the fall.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said: “I’m going to deal with his by way of conditional discharge for 12 months.”

The conditions are up to Mr Stevens.
