A massive cabbage caused confusion for a farmer — who took it to plant experts because he had no idea what it was.
The man, who has not been identified, took the huge vegetable to Aberfeldy Nursery in Paget to see if they could identify it.
The nursery’s Che Smith said: “It had grown so big he didn’t know what it was. He said it had just kept growing and growing.
“We took it apart and it turned out to be a cabbage.
“I’d never seen one that big. It was really heavy.”
He added that the cabbage had been put to good use after the farmer left it with staff — one of his colleagues had taken it home to use as chicken feed.
Mr Smith said: “Those chickens will be getting their greens for quite a while out of that.”
Mr Smith was photographed with the giant cabbage by amateur photographer Marsha Woolridge, from Devonshire, who was at the nursery looking for something to get rid of snails which were eating her garden flowers.
She said: “I saw it and had no idea what it was — the guy who dropped it off said he had lots like that. I’d never seen a cabbage like that before, so I had to get a photograph.”
