Two women appeared in court today charged with burglary and using a stolen credit card to buy hair weave.
Vanessa Blyden, 22 and Jewel Wilson, 23 both denied entering a Smith’s parish home as a trespasser and stealing a 42-inch TV, a Capital One credit card, a watch, DVD player, a queen sized bedspread and a shower caddy worth $1,400.
Blyden admitted dishonestly receiving a stolen Capital One credit card belonging to Burnell Richardson but Ms Wilson denied the charge.
Blyden also admitted using the credit card to buy $670 worth of fake hair.
All the offences are alleged to have taken place on February 26.
The court heard on that day Mr Richardson secured his home and left at 7am.
When he came home he immediately noticed his TV and DVD player were missing.
He saw a window in the living room was opened and damaged.
Mr Richardson also noticed his bedspread, a shower caddy and his Capital One card had been stolen.
He called the police and the bank, and he found out his card had been used.
Later that day, both defendants entered a hair supply store and went to pay for bags of fake hair with the card.
When it declined, the cashier became suspicious and both women were arrested.
Blyden admitted using the card but denied committing the burglary.
Ms Wilson admitted picking out the hair products and believed the card was stolen. After hearing the facts, the case against Ms Wilson was dismissed.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report for Blyden and the matter was adjourned to June 7.
She was released on $2,000 bail.
