A 42-year-old man who stole his friend’s wallet and phone after spending the evening with him was today remanded into custody.

Jason Liburd pleaded guilty to stealing a wallet from David Pilgrim containing $400 in cash a BlackBerry cell phone valued at $500. The offence happened on January 17.

The court heard the complainant and defendant have been friends for two years.

Crown counsel Susan Mulligan told the court Liburd was with Mr Pilgrim at 8:50pm that night at Casey’s Bar.

When it closed, the pair moved to the BPSU bar and left there at 11:45pm.

They then walked over the Queen Street and got on the complainant’s bike to go to his home.

Mr Pilgrim and Liburd arrived at Mr Pilgrim’s home after midnight.

The complainant then placed his wallet and cell phone on an end table near his bed.

Mr Pilgrim put a movie on for the men to watch but then fell asleep.

When he woke up 30 minutes later, he saw Liburd was gone, along with his wallet and cell phone.

The complainant then called the police and Liburd was arrested shortly after.

He denied stealing the items.

The court heard he is currently serving a prison sentence for another matter.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned the matter to May 30 for sentencing.
