Don’t miss Calderon speech
Only a handful of places remain for a top level conference featuring former Mexican president Felipe Calderon as the keynote speaker.
More than 200 people are expected to attend the Capital G Wealth Conference, due to be held tomorrow at the Fairmont Southampton.
Mr Calderon, who was president of Mexico from 2006-12, will deliver a major speech and he will be joined by an array of financial experts, including Minister of Finance Bob Richards.
A spokeswoman for Capital G said the conference would help the bank’s plans for expansion in the Latin American region.
She added: “We are looking to reach beyond Bermuda’s borders and potentially expand down to Latin America and we’re very honoured to have the former president come to speak at the conference.
“It’s a great thing for Bermuda to able to attract a person of such prominence.”
Bermuda was the first offshore jurisdiction to sign an Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development-approved tax information exchange agreement with Mexico and the first to reach an agreement with a Latin American country, making the island more attractive to Mexican investors and businesses and opening up a potentially huge market.
The Capital G spokeswoman said: “There are very few places left for the conference — if anyone wants to attend, they should register as soon as possible.”
The conference will focus on the threats to wealth preservation in the global recession and look at strategies to protect assets and transfer wealth to heirs.
Topics to be covered include the risk of kidnap and ransom, investing in real estate overseas and trends in the equities market.
The conference, which began in 2010, will also feature panel discussions, which will include Jonathan Dahl, a senior editor with the Wall Street Journal. The spokeswoman said: “The conference will use real world scenarios to illustrate issues of relevance and strategies for effective management.
“The conference will also provide an excellent networking platform for fortifying relationships, sharing best practice and generating new business potential for Capital G partners.”
