How many times have you ever said or thought, “If I can just get through tonight, then I will be okay?”
Most people have had the experience of just wanting to get through the night season.
You know the night season, when all is dark, spooky, quiet, and sleep is nowhere near you.
It is when you hear the littlest of sounds and you imagine the strangest of thoughts.
It is when things come to your mind that make you question your own mind. It is the night season.
Compassion
No one wants that kind of night season to continue. No, you want the day to break; you want to see the light break through; you want to start hearing day sounds. You want the new day.
There is something reassuring and refreshing about a new day.
To know that you made it through your night season to experience a new day is relieving, because the truth is that night seasons can make you feel like the day season will never come.
Job speaks to a night season in Job 30:17: My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
That’s a night season. I do not mention the negatives of a night season in order to have you think that night seasons ought not be. Quite the contrary!
Night seasons will always be. They will always be before the day season.
It is most often as you go through the night season that you develop your most effective testimony.
Oh, you never asked for the test, never wanted the test, and never studied for that test.
Yet that test will test your ability to survive your night season, and give you the right to advise others about how to get through, or go through, their own night season.
Jesus Himself went through night seasons. Jesus went through His night season for you and for me, and therefore He felt the night season as humanity would feel it.
That is why Jesus has compassion on us. He went through it Himself.
Hebrews 5:8: Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
John 1:14: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Hebrews 10:5: Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
In other words, Jesus understood that He was going to be the offering.
2 Corinthians 8:9: For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
When Jesus knew that His hour was come, He foreknew that it was not going to be easy.
Jesus was going through this as The Son of Man and not as The Son of God.
As The Son of Man, Jesus was going to feel every slap, push, piercing of His flesh, stab, ripping at His facial hair, and bashing.
John 12:27: Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
At that point, Jesus was not troubled in His body because He had not been attacked as yet.
At that point, Jesus was not troubled in His Spirit because He was still expounding the richness of insightful knowledge to His followers.
Jesus was troubled in His soul realm. That is the part that made Him human.
Even though He knew that He had come to earth to save us from our sins by being offered up on the cross as The Sacrificial Lamb, when that moment came, He struggled with it.
Struggles
Why is that in the Bible? Could it be that God wants you to know that even when you struggle and are in pain for what you have to go through, you have a High Priest, a Saviour, who understands what you are going through?
Jesus knows all about your struggles and He will be there for you to take you through to your victory moment.
Whatever you current night season is, allow Jesus to take you through. He knows the way through, and He can lead you through to the end.
Respice finem.
