Today Bermuda players will make their way to London, Ontario, to participate in the World Lacrosse Championships for the first time.

Opening ceremonies begin tomorrow night, July 13, and Bermuda's first game will be against Denmark on Friday at 5pm Bermuda time. The tournament continues through July 22.

Club secretary Evan Schemenauer said it was difficult to know what expectations were realistic to have at the team's first appearance at the competition.

"We're hoping to win a couple of games but we fully realize that (Bermuda) lacrosse is in the development stages. There are a few countries we think we can beat."

He said the team believes it has a good chance of winning against Spain and Denmark, while Finland and the Czech Republic will present a greater challenge.

The team is comprised of five Bermudians and four spouses of Bermudians, and the remaining number of players consists of residents hailing from the U.S., Canada and Ireland. Twenty-three players will travel to Ontario.

While the games won't be televised, you can watch highlights on CBC at 2:30pm on Saturday, July 15, and at 4:30pm on Saturday, July 22.
