The Stadiongracht will arrive in Bermuda later this week to pick up a rather unusual cargo: yachts.

The vessel will anchor in the Great Sound on Friday before hauling aboard four yachts as well as a container of goods from the Newport to Bermuda race.

The Stadiongracht will then set sail for Europe the next day bound for her next port of call Gibraltar.

Each year a small number of yachts from the race are transported from Bermuda to the Mediterranean after the race for the rest of the summer season on board a heavy lift ship.

Tomorrow sees the arrival of the UBC Mobile into Penno’s wharf.

Repaving roads

The gravel ship is bringing in sand and asphalt that will be used in repaving the island’s road.

The onboard cranes will be used to drop the gravel on the dockside at Penno’s before the material is then redistributed.

The Mobile, which originates in Nova Scotia, is due to be in Bermuda until Sunday morning when she heads back to the East Coast.

Today, the usual influx of 6,000 cruise passengers will hit the East End on board the Norwegian Breakaway and Celebrity Summit.

The Somers Isles gets into Hamilton this morning.

Finally, this weekend is a quite one up in Dockyard compared to normal.

There’s just one cruise ship in; the Norwegian Dawn arrives on Sunday morning at around 11am for a two-night stopover.
