Bermemes web and marketing guru and social media geek Karriem Sharrieff has produced a video that offers a fresh perspective on the Bermuda Day celebrations.

With a GoPro camera strapped to his head, Sharrieff filmed the day’s events over a 24 hour period.

He said he aimed to “get rid of the clinical, sterile image of Bermuda and capture a candid day-in-the-life of a young Bermudian — the stuff you’ll never see in a travel magazine”.

Inspired by the original Duke Dumont I Got You video, the film begins with Sharrieff rising from his bed, jumping in the shower and heading out on his bike to enjoy the day. He heads along North Shore into town where he is greeted by dancers, majorettes, colourful floats and much celebration. The members of the Chewstick float are seen freeing doves into the sky but Bermemes promised, “Ay buh… no doves were harmed in de making ah dis video”.

Bermemes launched their website on Bermuda Day last year and provided a multi-media platform social media package that would unite the country on a whole new level. Throughout the day the team uploaded memes, photos, live video feeds of the day’s action, Bermuda-related posts gathered from across the Internet, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram posts and even a playlist of party songs, many by Bermudian artists.

On the day of launch, their new site was inundated with visitors not only from Bermuda but from people all over the world.

One meme showing Tyler Butterfield crossing the Half Marathon finishing line first attracted 7,700.

Sharrieff said he aimed to create more films of major Bermudian events in the coming year.
