Recently, the Premier and Minister of National Security, the Hon. Michael Dunkley, JP, MP, recognized more than two dozen private and public sector scholarship recipients who are studying for careers ranging from aviation to international business.

Last week the Premier participated in the 2014 Association of Bermuda International Companies (ABIC) Education Awards ceremony, where he praised the accomplishments of 17 scholarship recipients. The Premier highlighted the fact that in the last decade over $5 million has been donated towards the ABIC Education Awards scholarship program. In the past ten years this financial support has afforded hundreds of young people to pursue studies in the international business field.

Also last week, the Premier recognized nine Bermudians who were recipients of the 2014 Bermuda Government’s Bursary and Professional and Technical Trainee Scheme Awards. The awardees were Zane Robinson, Miguel Vasconcelos, Shari Scott, Kascia White, Daniele Bortoli, Tarita Cartwright, Bryan DeCouto, Jewel Robinson and Trevor Simmons. This year’s scholarship allocation was $150,000 for the nine individuals who are studying in the fields of aviation, biology, building systems engineering, occupational therapy, electrical engineering, management accountants, process controller and airworthiness safety.

Premier Dunkley said he was pleased to recognize this year’s scholarship recipients and encouraged the scholars to “continue to strive for excellence, broaden their knowledge, and equip themselves with the necessary skills so that they can make a positive and significant contribution to Bermuda’s workforce”.
