Super Taylor claims Ten-pin Classic cheque

The Bermuda Open Tenpin Classic tournament for the high-average bowlers concluded over the weekend with a record entry.   

This included six women, while to qualify, bowlers bowled 10 games in two five-game blocks. 

On Saturday, competition was fierce with bowlers trying to make the top 12 cash positions — the top five then proceeded to a stepladder format for the overall championship.

The top five were: Mike Taylor, Pa. USA; 2. David Maycock, Bermuda; 3. Andrew Shultz, Florida USA; 4. Levinc Samuels, Bermuda; 5. John York, South Carolina, USA.

Positions six to 12, and their cash winnings were as follows: 6. Lamar Richardson ($1,450); 7.Matthew Viney ($1,425); 8. Jermaine  Desilva ($1,400); 9. Patrice Tucker ($1,375); 10. Damien Matthews ($1,300); 11. Mike McCallum ($1,250); 12. Renalda  Bean ($1,150).

Levinc Samuels climbed the ladder to take on third place Andrew Shultz, with Samuels taking the win by four pins. David Maycock was next on the list  for Samuels — but Maycock didn’t give Samuels a chance as he tore up the lanes with a 226 to Samuels’ 168  to advance to take on  first  place  Mike Taylor.

Maycock, though, ended up 10 pins short as Taylor won the championship 192-182. Final stepladder results: 1 Mike Taylor ($3,500); 2 David Maycock ($1,850); 3 Levinc Samuels ($1,650); 4 Andrew Shultz ($1,450); 5 John York ($1,500).

The Crystal  Trophy for the first-placed woman went to Patrice Tucker. n
