ACE kicks off season with win

ACE began the new season on a high note, as they tied the game in the final inning, then scored again in the extra frame to edge Castlewood by 17-16 in an eight-inning thriller.

Paulo Arruda tied the game with a solo homerun, before Tracey Bean (3/6) singled home Nicole Kihn with the winning run. Chad Cundliffe (4/5, 6 RBI) blasted a pair of homeruns for Castlewood.

In other A League play, Tuff Dogs and White Mountains Re both earned easy victories when their opponents defaulted their opening games of the season.

In the first demonstration of the new “flip-flop” rule, Marsh Madness defended the fourth and fifth innings back-to-back, recording the six outs necessary to complete an 18-2 mercy win over Deloitte.

David Spear (2/4) led off three different innings and Rob Hawley (3/3) drove in four runs as Marsh built up a large lead early in the game. Richard Wallington tripled and scored for Deloitte.

Robin Hood shook off the effects of a pre-game team meeting, and proceeded to knock off The Beach by 11-5.

Algernon Busby (4/4) went deep and drove in three, with Doug Hillen (2/3) bringing in a pair. Matt O'Connell (2/2) came off the bench to drive in a run for The Beach.

Renegades tied their game in the sixth, then scored twice in the eighth inning to pull out a 9-8 victory over Butterfield Bank Bulldawgs.

Dwayne Basden (3/4, 3 RBI) tied the game with a two-run shot, then singled home the game winner, while David Wall added three hits. Andy Lapointe doubled in two runs for the Bulldawgs.

Bank of Bermuda All Points scored two insurance runs in the sixth inning to secure a 10-7 win over BISYS. Mike Sterzuk (2/4, 4 RBI) slammed a three-run homerun and Ernest Dunphy (2/2) drove in two runs for the All Points. Mike Gentile (2/3, 3 RBI) homered for BISYS.

Bermuda Blueprinting roared back in the middle innings, as they surged to a 15-10 win over AF Smith. Ian Bridges (4/5, 5 RBI) went deep to lead the comeback, while Steven Bridges (3/5) added a pair of solo homeruns for Bermuda Blue. Carl Seymour (3/4) doubled twice and Andre Labonte (RBI) added three hits for AF Smith.

D&J Construction scored in every inning, as they spoiled the debut of Logic with a 14-9 win. John Blanchard (3/5) drove in six to power D&J to victory, and Ben Haplin (3/4, 4 RBI) added a pair of homeruns in support. Jess Swinamer doubled home two runs, while Jeff Hart slugged the first homerun for the Logic team. n
