Sandys 360’s Team Hurricane Basketball Programme did themselves proud at Bermuda’s premier international youth basketball competition, the Thanksgiving Classic.

Along with Stanstead College from Canada, the  Classic also featured the Team Hurricane Senior  Under-19 National Team and Team Hurricane’s High School Allstar Team.

An exciting mix of games were played out over two days.

Stanstead College came away with victories in all three contests but the games between Team Hurricane and Stanstead College featured highly-competitive and spirited basketball.

The afternoon battle between Stanstead College and Team Hurricane’s High School Allstars turned out to be the most lively and entertaining game of the Thanksgiving Classic as Stanstead College squeezed out a 59–53 victory.

Coach Doug Reed said: “I'm really proud of the way the team played this weekend.

“There was a cohesiveness on the floor and as a team they played with grit, competitiveness and what I want our program to be known for...toughness.

“I enjoyed seeing the genuine support that they all showed for one another.

“The young men carried themselves with class this whole weekend and showed great sportsmanship during and after the game.  It was beautiful to see.”

Outstanding play of note went to Markus Robinson of Cedarbridge Academy who was named Hurricane MVP by the Thanksgiving Classic for his dynamic play from the point guard position.

The overall Thanksgiving Classic MVP was given to explosive scoring guard Roydell Clarke of Stanstead College, who averaged 28 points during the tournament. For information about the Sandys 360 Team Hurricane Basketball Program, please contact Coach Doug Reed at [email protected]
