Gift show to highlight unique jewellery
Alexandra Mosher’s designs are inspired by Venetian artisans

Sometimes, when you’re shopping for a Christmas gift, you want something special and unique, rather than a mass produced item from a department store.

Well, this year, if you’re looking for that special, unique item, try visiting the Christmas Gift Show at the Tuckers Point Club. The show, organised by Shelly Hamill, began when Hamill and her friend were looking for a fun way to introduce new products to people.

Three shows later, Hamill has now joined with young artist Alexandra Mosher to create a show where you’ll find products like no other.

Hamill said: “It is fun and festive to offer great products in a casual atmosphere and we can offer products in smaller quantity and at lower prices since we don’t have the overhead of retail space.”

This year, they’ll be offering everything from photo albums to calendars as well as handmade jewellery created by Mosher.

Prices for all of the items range from $5 to $100, so your gifts this year won’t break the bank either.

Mosher’s jewellery is handmade, inspired by Venetian jewellery that Hamill sold at an earlier show.

Hamill said: “Alex and I have known each other for several years.

“Alex has been a great supporter of my shows as a shopper and now as a seller. Alex started making jewellery and her designs are wonderful.

“I am always interested in small businesses and especially those started by young enterprising women. I am happy to do whatever I can to help Alex and know that what Alex creates compliments my products.”

Mosher, 25, started creating jewellery in August, when she couldn’t buy any jewellery that she really liked.

One day, while talking with Hamill, Hamill noticed the earrings she was wearing and asked her where she got them.

Upon finding out that she had made them herself, Hamill convinced her to begin selling them at her show.

“I use semi-preciouus gemstones and gold and silver wire and different sizes of chains to create delicate necklaces and bracelets and rings,” Mosher, the events coordinator at Tucker’s Point Club, said. “I did art in college and I love doing it … so I’m thrilled to be doing this show with Shelly.”

The Christmas Gift Show will be held on one day only at the Tucker's Point Club. The event takes place on Friday, November 25, from 9am to 4pm.

Christmas cards

Also, if you’re looking for unique Christmas cards to accompany your unique gift, you can buy Christmas cards created by Bermuda artists through the Bermuda Junior Service League, and help charities at the same time.

The cards are distinctly Bermudian, with quirky local scenes like one of Santa relaxing on a moongate, or Bermuda Birds in a Christmas tree.

The artists who created the cards are: Karen Kell, Peter Woolcock, Elizabeth Mulderig, Gretchen Cooney, Molly Smith, Shirley James and Patricia DeCosta.

Proceeds from the sale of the cards will go to local charities supported by The Bermuda Junior Service League.

To order any of the cards you can contact Karen Olsen by e-mailing bjsl@northrock.bm or calling 292-1055 or by visiting the Rosemont Guest Apartments.
