Former Hogges' striker Ralph Bean admits he needed a break from the game after almost three-years of non-stop football.
The North Village front man Bean chose not to renew his Hogges contract this summer.
Cougars captain Kwame Steede, Jelani Scott and Kofi Dill made the same decision with the credit-crunch forcing Hogges bosses to cut the wage bill.
But Bean insisted it had never been about the money and the loss in earnings was not a factor in his decision.
"I'm driving taxi now and I have to put the hours in," said Bean. "I've been playing football for three years straight and mentally I needed a break," added the 28-year-old.
Bean said he had no plans to play in the six-a-side Island Soccer League and was hoping to forget about football for a few months and come back fresh for Village next season.
"I plan on taking the entire summer off. It's not about the money - even if the wages were still the same I would have made the same decision. I was not enjoying my football as much as I should. After nearly three years of non-stop football I felt like I was going through the motions."
Bean has not ruled out a return next season, saying "I haven't really thought beyond this summer."
But he believes the Hogges can do well in his absence.
"I think they will do well. There are always changes made in professional teams and the new faces will make a difference. They can only get better."
