National squash coach Denise Sommers beat Canadian star Leah Bishop in straight sets to win the Bermuda title on her tournament debut.
The Dutch fomer pro strolled to a convincing 9-0, 9-2, 9-0 to win in little over 20 minutes in front of a full house at the Devonshire squash club.
This week was the first time anyone at the Club had seen former World number 26 in action. And it was a clinical display.
She came through the tournament without dropping a set, playing some exhibition squash along the way.
Bishop, a talented and hard working player, never gave up in the final, but Sommers was on a different level.
After the game, she said she was delighted to be national champion, despite the apparant ease of the victory.
"I was six times runner up in Holland and I never won it, so it's nice to finally be a national champion."
She said that in the final she had given it her all and tried to get the job done as quickly as possioble.
But she said she had tried to play some good squash throughout the tournament and be a good role model to the junior players at the club.
"A lot of girls are quite timid and I'm very aggressive, so it's good to show them a bit of girl power!"
