One of Bermuda’s award-winning resorts is ready to expand.
The Reefs, which has been consistently ranked in Travel+Leisure as one of the best resorts in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Bermuda region, has selected The Carroll Adams Group, Inc. and affiliate partner Blue Sky Studio for its upcoming interior renovation and expansion.
The project will be completed in two phases and includes a complete interior renovation of the current 65-room property and the construction of a new fractional ownership property. The new properties will create 21 additional two- and three-bedroom units.
Jason Lowe of the Orlando-based Carroll Adams Group said the project began when the Reefs owner thought it was time to offer guests a fresh look.
“This winter we focused on the interior, replacing furniture, bedding and colour schemes, and this will tie into the next phase — expansion,” Mr. Lowe said. “The theme is traditional island chic. That includes clean lines in the furniture, tropical wood tones like crushed bamboo and a fresh colour palette in the paint.”
The Reefs opened in Southampton in 1947 and currently has 65 guest rooms and suites including seven cottages with outdoor Jacuzzis, an infinity pool and an award-winning spa. The Reefs ranked first as “World’s Best Hotel Value” for three consecutive years by Travel+Leisure readers and was on Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List of the “World’s Best Places to Stay” since 1997.
Mr. Lowe said the resort’s new interior design was inspired by the surroundings in Bermuda. Two teams — including Ted Carroll of the Carroll Adams Group and Janel Craigie Dagon of Blue Sky Studio — have already visited the island, and another visit is due to arrive next week. The project is currently in design, with installation taking place over the next few months. This phase is set to be complete in May.
The second phase expansion will begin next year.
The Carroll Adams Group is a leader in its industry and has recently worked on projects like the Westin New York at Times Square, the Omni Richmond Hotel and the W Viegues in Martineau Bay. It has partnered with Blue Sky Studio, also based in Orlando, for The Reefs project.
Ms Dagon of Blue Sky Studio has provided interior design consulting for prestigious projects like Loews Universal Orlando properties and many Hawaiian properties.
The two companies are also partnering on downtown Orlando’s first condo-hotel project, The Lexington at Orlando CityPlace.
While the firms have worked in the Caribbean and Hawaii, this will be their first Bermuda
