Marine Science Day was as much about fun as it was learning - and the two often overlapped.

Children had the opportunity to get up close and personal with a multitude of sea creatures in the wave tank while learning all about their habits and habitats.

Parents were equally as intrigued as their children as there were plenty of activities to keep them entertained. Families were given full tours of the Station's research vessel the Atlantic Explorer and had the opportunity to ask a scientist any question they wanted about the marine environment.

But it was the Wacky Science sessions that got the kids, and the big kids, really excited. They learned how to make a lava lamp out of oil, salt and water, how to create a liquid with soft and solid properties called colloids and how to make a can of coke explode by adding a Mentos mint.
