Sailor rescued off North Shore

A teenage sailor was rescued after his boat capsized off the north shore on Thursday.

The 17-year-old was pulled out of the water just after 9.30pm following a rescue effort from Bermuda Police Marine Unit and the regiment.

The teenager alerted the rescue crew to his boat by shouting and whistling.

In a brief press release today a police spokesman said: “ The Police Marine Unit received a report of an overturned sailboat off the North Shore in the area of Admiralty House.

“Marine Unit officers as well as soldiers from the Bermuda Regiment’s Boat Troop responded in Police vessels and commenced the search for the solo sailor, a 17 year old young man.

“Using flares and with the assistance of Bermuda Radio, the Police vessels located the teenager and brought him onboard one of the rescue vessels.

“His sailboat was secured to one of the oil docks’ mooring buoys and the 17 year old was transported back to Marine Unit headquarters uninjured.”
