Woman cleared of harbouring former fugitive Gordon
Simon Jones

A woman has been cleared of harbouring fugitive Omari Gordon while he was on the run from police.

Davina Ratteray rented the flat in Sound View Drive in Sandys where Mr. Gordon was found on January 7.

Ms. Ratteray, 44, admitted renting the apartment “for a friend” and turning the lights on in the property.

But yesterday Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said there was no evidence to prove she was involved in a plot to hide Mr. Gordon.

He described the evidence against her as “weak and tenuous”.

Mr. Tokunbo said: “There is no evidence as to who that person was who rented the apartment or whether it was Omari Gordon.

“There is no evidence of harbouring other than the fact he was found at the place.

“And there is no evidence that Mr. Gordon was living there between the dates the prosecution say.”

Mr. Tokunbo upheld Ms. Ratteray’s lawyer, Charles Richardson’s, argument that there was no case to answer.

Ms. Ratteray was cleared of obstructing justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice and allowed to walk free from court.

Mr. Gordon is due to stand trial later this year at the Supreme Court.

He is said to have opened fire at police officers as they chased him through Pembroke on November 28, 2008.

The 26-year-old was on the run from police for 13 months before he was arrested in January.

He denies charges of unlawfully discharging a firearm and using a firearm to resist arrest and is currently in custody.
