WEDNESDAY, JULY 28: Alvone Maybury appeared in Magistrates Court this morning accused of escaping from custody.

Mr. Maybury was surrounded by police as he was escorted up Parliament Street from Hamilton Police Station to the court.

Dozens of onlookers stopped on the sidewalk to watch and traffic was stopped as the 24-year-old was taken into Magistrates’.

He is accused of escaping from custody on July 13 as he was being led away from court on separate firearms charges.

It is alleged he gave prison guards the slip and ran off into the back of town with his hands still handcuffed.

Mr. Maybury was arrested yesterday at 1:20pm in an outbuilding on Secret Lane, Pembroke after an island-wide man hunt.

During the brief court hearing today Mr. Maybury was charged with escaping from lawful custody.

He wore jeans, a black T-shirt and sneakers and was still sporting braids and the $ symbol tattoo under his eye.

He did not speak during the brief hearing and was remanded into custody until August 6 when he will appear at court again.

He did not enter a plea to the charge as it can only be heard in the Supreme Court.
