Three men shot
Don Burgess
Deputy Editor

SATURDAY, MARCH 20: Police are reporting that three men were shot in the parking lot near Place's Place on Dundonlad Street Friday night.

It was the second firearms incident of the evening.

It brings the total of firearm related crime to five for the past seven days.

Around 10:55pm on Friday, Police responded to a report of gunshots on Dundonald Street in Pembroke, in the parking lot of Place's Place. Three men were shot and were taken to KEMH for treatment of their injuries. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Around 10pm on Friday, Police responded to an incident that took place at Bulkhead Drive in Warwick. It appeared that a group of men entered a residence, brandished and discharged a firearm; however no one was injured. A sword was also brandished, with one man receiving lacerations to his arms and body. He is at KEMH being treated for his injuries.

An active investigation has commenced under the direction of Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro of the Serious Crime Unit. Police are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have been in the area of Dundonald Street and Court Street in Pembroke around 10:55pm Friday and saw anything suspicious, no matter how insignificant it may have seemed at the time.

Any witnesses to these incidents or anyone with any information are urged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 299-8115 or the independent 24 hour confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477. Anonymous tips can also be sent via the Crime Stoppers Bermuda website at www.crimestoppers.bm.

Reading the comments I noticed only one person truly understands the situation. Many seem to be more worried about Bermuda's future relationship with business & tourism then with the relationship with their youth (the future of Bermuda). Adults need to show a genuine honest interest in the youth, especially in a place as small & isolated as Bermuda. Cable T.V. & internet has made outside influences (good & bad) more prevelent than in past generations.

Terry...You make a valid point about the people who support & hide all these so-called 'Gangsta' criminals...Because they won't talk or cooperate with the authorities - that's my whole point....BDA needs another set of professional "Eyes & Ears" who are specifically trained to find these murderers...Scotland Yard are amongst the best in the world, to get the job done!!

Philip are you insinuating that the PLP has something to do with this? I hope not because you would have to give a LOT of support for that. When people have no integrity, they do foolishness with hopes of not getting caught. We can do our best by taking care of our own households, being there for our children. Taking time out for them. Then, we can branch out to help others. Why not become a mentor? Why not be a big brother or sister? Stop the drinking and smoking in front of the children. Stop cursing and disrespecting others in front of them. Show them that you respect authority. Also, respect them...they will ultimately respect you. Be aware of the friends they keep. Keep in touch with their teachers. Dont wait for the scheduled parent teacher meetings. Show your children you care by being involved. Listen to them. Cry with them. Hug them. Kiss them. Watch the shows that they watch. Watch them closely so that if a person means them harm you can see it a mile away. We can all do our part to make this better. These are only suggestions. We are all looking for a quick fix but this kind of stuff dont happen over night, so why should it be fixed over night? All we can do is pray for strength and guidance from God so that we can know our part and do our part in the matter.

The Police do have guns, they just don't carry them. We have to ask ourselves what has changed in the last 10 yeara to bring on this love of gun culture as well as a segment of our society that believes it can do whatever it wants with impunity and disrespect and trample on the rights of the rest of Bermuda and her people. What has changed...

I am bermudian, and with all due respect to the police it seems as if the police are waiting for people to provide information to them or waiting for violent people to do something so stupid as to hang their ownselves so to speak instead of being on the offensive. I saw something in the bermuda sun a few weeks ago where they said they will start making it mandatory for people the public not just to leave tips but to follow all the way through with tips basically until this person is in jail. If this is where our fight on crime is going then you will give thses guys that do all the criminal behavior a free liscence to do what ever they want.It will basically be open season to do whatever you want as a criminal, shoot, rob, steal, rape, kidnap. And this behavior we are presently seeing will continue, the public should be helping in giving tips yes,,and if they want to do more it should be up to them, but not mandatory Bermuda is a small place and maybe people dont feel safe doing a lot.If the police cant protect them now how are they going to protect them once they testify??But many feel that there are to many people openly using drugs and living that criminal life that you dont even need that many tips in the first place. ** If these guys are openly causing mayhem in the community imagine what the household must be like the families they live with are probBably to terrified to call the police. And then the police dont do anything because people are not calling in.So the police have the upper hand here. lets end all this craziness its to much .

In Maine USA we seem to have less gun violence. While most of the people own guns. I'm nervous about visiting Bermuda again. Something wrong when only the crooks have guns

What a very SAD state of affairs...If the local police can't handle this escalating "GUN" violence - Then call-in SCOTLAND YARD immediately...The Island is at a VERY serious 'cross Roads'!!

Comment by: BERMUDA TAKE NOTE:

Unless there is an immediate end to this ionsanity.......Bermuda will be a place where no one wants to visit nor do business with. How can foreign companies trust these thugs with their guns? Each and every time I read of another incident, I think of Detroit Michigan.
