'Shooting was not related to College event'
Bermuda College press release

SUNDAY, MAR. 14: A weekend incident involving a gunshot fired on the campus of Bermuda College is currently under police investigation.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning in the area of the East Parking Lot (F) near the College gymnasium.

Police attended and subsequently discovered that the window of a car parked in the vicinity had been smashed and two cycles had items stolen from them.

It was subsequently reported that a person had attended the hospital with a gunshot wound.

College Road was initially closed by Police and later re-opened around 11 am Saturday.

College spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett stressed that the incident did not take place at an event that was being hosted by the Student Government Council (SGC) in the Student Hall at the time.

"We take the issue of student safety very seriously," she said, "and in this instance, as at all SGC-sponsored events, there was a strong security presence inside the Hall, as well as externally, using Bermuda College security officers and those from an external agency.

"Nevertheless, the event was ended early by chaperones and persons left the College without incident."
