We all know how expensive getting an education can be.

Students struggle financially while studying and parents spend thousands of dollars ensuring their children get the best qualifications they can.

Acquiring a scholarship can be a lifeline to students, especially if their parents are on a modest income. It allows the student to focus on their education and reduces the level of anxiety felt by both students and parents over how they are going to fund it.

Having said this, some scholarships are not applied for. It is the case that students and parents are not fully aware of just what awards are on offer.

To address this problem the Bermuda Sun's Scholarship Directory magazine in today's paper is the most comprehensive guide to the scholarships and awards we have ever produced.

The A to Z guide of scholarships contains details of 190 scholarships, bursaries and awards in areas including accounting, business, engineering, environmental science, insurance, legal and the performing arts.

In the 44-page Scholarship Directory we hear from some of the companies offering awards and they explain the process of scholarship application and what they have to offer in assisting career development.

Previous scholarship recipients share their experiences and explain how being a recipient of a scholarship has helped them during their studies.

This is the right time for students and parents to get their heads together and really examine what awards and scholarships are on offer.

Bermuda is fortunate to have so many companies and organizations willing to offer financial aid to students. Parents and students need to spend time researching what is on offer so that these awards are taken up.

The Scholarship Directory is available in today's Bermuda Sun and online at www.bermudasun.bm.
