FRIDAY, FEB. 19: The Bermuda Regiment will be participating in the first of their weekend camps in preparation for this year's Overseas Camp.
The weekend will start with a Commanders Study Night on Friday night for all commanders, from Section Commanders to the Commanding Officer.
Lt Col Brian Gonsalves stated: "In accordance with the intent specified in my Command Plan 2009, all Commanders are to attend quarterly training periods to enable them to better carry out their duties and responsibilities as leaders within the Bermuda Regiment. This is the first of such training periods this year."
Capt Julian Wheddon, training officer for the Bermuda Regiment, added: "The Commanders Training Night is designed to ensure commonality of best practice across the Regiment and ensure all Commanders are equipped to carry out their duties effectively."
Among the training objectives to be covered will be the MATT 6 (Values and Standards and the Complaints Procedure) for Commanders, to be taught by the Regiment's Adjutant, Capt Chris Gauntlett, in line with the Commanding Officer's stated intention to improve how the Regiment will handles and investigates new complaints going forward.
The remainder of this weekend, members of Training Company, Alpha Company, Support Company and Quartermasters Company will participate in specialized training in anticipation and preparation for Overseas Camp, Exercise IRIE ONION, which will take place in Jamaica 24 Apr - 7 May 2010.
"As always," said Capt Wheddon, "we are grateful to the Island's employers for assisting and ensuring their employees are able to attend as obliged under the Defense Act 1965."
Members of the motoring public are asked to please use caution this weekend along South Road in front of Warwick Camp. Members of the general public are also warned that over the weekend there will be live firing and exercise firing/pyrotechnics within Warwick Camp as well as Morgan's Point.
