FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16: Reggie Lambe is expected to be an immediate contributor to new club Toronto FC.
The club signed the talented winger last week and the club’s director of player development, Paul Mariner, told the Toronto Sun on Wednesday, that he thought that Lambe will be an immediate contributor to the team.
Mariner said: “He was a little bit hurt to be rejected in England ... I don’t think the (English) Championship really suits a player of his abilities.
“He’s very quick, very technical ... If you watch many (Championship) games it’s generally kick-and-run sort of stuff.
“I think the way that we play will suit his game much better. He’ll get the ball out wide and he’ll be taking people one-on-one. It gives us options.”
Mariner added a lot of clubs in England still wanted Lambe, but Toronto got the drop on them.
Mariner also told the Canadian press that Bermuda has a lot of talent Toronto could scoop up.
“We see lots of potential in Bermuda – there’s a lot of very, very good young players.
He added with limited opportunities in Bermuda “we just feel we might be able to fast-track a couple of guys further down the line and that we can help TFC and hopefully help international football.”
