FRIDAY, FEB. 3: A lack of cash will cause the Bermuda national football team to miss playing any friendly matches this month.
The Bermuda Football Association issued a statement on Friday saying due to “limited funding, which must be applied to other previously planned commitments” it had to pull back on playing friendlies at the end of February.
The BFA general secretary David Sabir said the association had received “favourable responses” from four countries to the south of Bermuda and hopes “to play matches throughout the year on or around FIFA’s other international match dates.
“While this may seem a temporary setback, the association remains committed to providing international opportunities for all players who aspire to representing Bermuda.”
Bermuda is committed to playing in the Digicel Cup later this year.
The team climbed from 189 in the FIFA rankings to 106 after the just concluded World Cup campaign.
