MONDAY, JULY 9: Lionel Cann will skipper the St George’s side at this year’s Cup Match.

Last year’s skipper, Oronde Bascome, will not be fit in time for the clash at Somerset Cricket Club on August 2 and 3 because he is still recovering from appendix surgery.

Cann was the Blue and Blue’s match winner in last year’s dramatic win at the Wellington Oval when he scored 49 not out in the final innings.

St George’s have held the Cup since they beat their bitter rivals by 27 runs in 2005.

St George’s Cricket Club president Neil Paynter told the Bermuda Sun: “I like to think that the team won’t lose anything from this forced decision.

“It is obviously unfortunate for Oronde.

“But Lionel Cann is a more than capable replacement. He is a great leader and a very suitable candidate.”
