FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21: Tyler Butterfield isn’t passing up a chance to compete against cycling legend Lance Armstrong.

With the Olympics behind him, Tyler Butterfield will concentrate on the longer form of triathlon.

His busy schedule see him in action this Sunday and then will compete again in the Superfrog Triathlon next weekend, which could be a media circus as Lance Armstrong expects to compete.

The United States Ant-Doping Agency recently banned Armstrong for life — a ban which is supposed to carry over to other sports. The Chicago Marathon, which is slated a week after the Superfrog Triathlon, has already announced Armstrong will not be allowed to compete.

The USADA also stripped Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles, something Cycling’s governing body, the ICU, has refused to do at this point.

The Superfrog is not sanctioned by USA Triathlon and are not bound to abide by USADA bans.

SuperFrog Race Director Mitch Hall said in a press release: “We’d simply like to abide by the principle that Lance is innocent until proven guilty.

“We also believe that Armstrong’s role as a great American philanthropist aligns well with SuperFrog’s mission to serve as a philanthropic force in the Navy Seal and Special Forces communities.”

The press release included an additional challenge for Armstrong: “In light of SuperFrog’s charitable mission, SuperFrog also challenges Armstrong to a dual between him and a relay of some of the finest Navy Seals: if Armstrong can beat these Seals by 25 minutes, SuperFrog will donate a portion of its charitable proceeds to the Livestrong Foundation,” the press release stated.

Butterfield said: “I heard Lance was coming for the Superfrog half on the Sunday, so that sealed my decision to make a weekend of it. Nik (his wife) and Sav (his daughter) are coming too, so it should be a fun family time.”
