FRIDAY, MARCH 2: It might be dubbed ‘Fists of Fury’ but there will be plenty of feet flying as well.

Next weekend’s Teachers Rugby Fight Night XIV will provide plenty of drama, especially with Teresa Perozzi putting her WBA Middleweight title belt on the line against American April Ward, but the undercard will provide an evening’s worth of entertainment leading up to it.

Not the least of which, will feature Jermal Woolridge dueling with Canada’s Martello Jones in a Muay Thai bout. Woolridge said his training “is going good. Things are running on schedule”. The Bermudian said he doesn’t know much about his Canadian opponent.

“I haven’t been too concerned about how his fighting style is. There are a couple of things I have to work on for myself first.

“Once I do that I’ll find out any information about him and see how he is.”

Woolridge has been training with Perozzi at Forty Rego’s gym.

“I’ve been doing a lot of work with her. For her to retain the title, would be an even bonus for myself and for the other guys at the gym whom she’s been working with.”

Woolridge said generally he’s been training from 5pm to 8pm nightly ahead of the big bout next week but as the fight draws closer he plans on tapering off. “I will rest up a bit to give my body a chance to recuperate and get ready for the big show.”

Woolridge, who is a member of the Bermuda Sanshou Association, said the other bout he is looking forward to seeing is teammate fight. “This is looking to be a very, very good night. It’s actually building up to be one of the best Fight Fests that Teachers Rugby put on.

“Samir Furquan actually has a rematch with a guy he fought and beat two years ago, but that’s going to be a fight I’m looking forward to seeing how he does in fighting this guy the second time around.”

Fight Night XIV, Fists of Fury will take place on Saturday, March 10 at the Berkeley Institute. Tickets are $65 general admission and $120 for VIP with open bar. Tickets are available at ptix.bm, the International Sports Shop and & the Pro Shop. Only people 18 and older will be allowed to attend the event.
