WEDNESDAY, MAY 2: CellOne today announced their support campaign of Bermudian long jumper Tyrone Smith, Bermuda’s ‘2011 Male Athlete of the Year’ and the ‘2011 CAC Long Jump Champion’.
"We're proud to be a part Tyrone's dream as he continues to achieve his goals in the lead up to the 2012 London Olympic games", says Director of Marketing Rob McNabb. "We understand the challenges athletes face with having to juggle between their athletic careers and everyday life. As Tyrone's communication partner since 2011 we continue to aim at alleviating some of the pressures Tyrone faces in order for him to focus on what is most important to his success."
Tyrone Smith holds Bermuda's national record for long jump, achieving a distance of 8.22 metres earning him a gold medal at the 2010 CAC games in Puerto Rico. He reclaimed this title in 2011 with a distance of 8.06 metres.
"I'm really excited about this new public campaign with CellOne Bermuda", says Tyrone Smith. "I have to travel quite a bit for competitions as a professional long jumper making the costs of staying connected a huge burden. CellOne has made it possible for me to stay in contact with my Agents, the Bermuda Track and Field Association, and the Bermuda Olympic Association firstly without having to worry about if I will have coverage in an obscure part of the world and secondly avoiding a huge cell phone bill waiting for me when I get back!"
Tyrone’s most recent competition was at the 2012 World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey where he placed among top ten in the world. Stay tuned for more coverage of Tyrone’s progress through video blogs that will be circulated via CellOne’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
