MONDAY, AUGUST 13: A 44-year-old man appeared in court today charged with assaulting a man and a woman.

Leonard Swan denied wounding Selwyne Berkeley on August 3 in Smith’s.

Swan admitted unlawfully assaulting Maceela Berkeley and causing her bodily harm on the same day, but denied uttering threatening words to her.

Finally, the defendant admitted using offensive words towards PC Jones in the Hamilton Police Station, a public place, on August 10.

No details of the case were given in court.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned the matter for trial in October.

Swan was remanded into custody until then.
