MONDAY, MAY 14: Two men appeared in Magistrates’ Court today for allegedly conspiring to smuggle half a million dollars worth of cannabis into Bermuda.

Andre Blackstone, 25, of Smith’s, and Kenton Butterfield-Smith, 24, of Paget, were charged with conspiring together to import cannabis between a date unknown and April 20.

The court was told the cannabis weighed 30lbs and valued at $558,000.

No further details of the case were given.

The defendants were not required enter pleas as the matter is indictable and must be heard in the Supreme Court.

Mr Blackstock and Mr Butterfield-Smith were each given $25,000 bail with one surety. They were ordered to surrender their travel documents and report to the Hamilton Police Station on Mondays.

The defendants will reappear in court on May 28.
