TALL SHIPS ARRIVE IN BERMUDA

The 22 Tall Ships taking part in the 2009 Atlantic Challenge arrived in Bermuda. The race was launched especially to celebrate Bermuda's 400th anniversary. The ships covered some 7,000 miles starting in Vigo, Spain and ending in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

UIGHURS COME TO BERMUDA

Four Uighurs denounced by the China government as "terrorists" but cleared by the U.S. of any wrongdoing were offered asylum in Bermuda. Government House, along with the British Government, were furious they were kept in the dark until after the refugees arrived.

Premier Ewart Brown said we had a moral obligation to give them a home.

HUNDREDS IN BROWN PROTEST

Hundreds of people gathered to chant "Brown must go" in a protest to see him ousted over the Uighur controversy.

However, political insiders were proved right when they said the storm was unlikely to cost the Premier his job.

The UBP needed the support of at least five rebel PLP MPs in order to force through a motion of no confidence in Dr. Brown.

FIVE YOUTHS ON MURDER RAP

The trial of five youths accused of murdering teenager Kellon Hill began in the Supreme Court.

The group allegedly beat the 18-year-old with a walking cane, screwdriver and crash helmets and plunged a knife into his heart.

None of the defendants were ever convicted.

QUINCY TO HEAD MUSIC FEST

The Bermuda Sun revealed that legendary music producer Quincy Jones was tipped to be the big name behind this year's Bermuda Music Festival.

Grammy Award-winning Mr. Jones is one of the most successful black artists of all time.

The prolific music producer is best known for working on Michael Jackson's album Thriller.

MOVIE STAR COUPLE DEPARTS

Celebrity couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones said their farewells to Bermuda as they temporarily left the island they love.

Our most famous couple and their two children moved to New York for "work and personal reasons".

The Bermuda Sun reported the couple had rented out their home in Warwick.

Their relocation was called a "temporary leave of absence", with the family expected to be off island for up to two years.

MUSIC ICON IS REMEMBERED

Controversial world pop icon Michael Jackson was remembered across Bermuda and the rest of the world after his shock death at the age of 50.

The singer, who had been due to begin a series of comeback concerts in London, suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Bel Air on June 25.
