Former Premier Dame Jennifer Smith is in Bangladesh to observe and comment on the country's parliamentary elections this coming Monday.

She is part of an official Commonwealth Observer Group which is comprised of 10 people from across the world.

The group's function is to act as independent observers as ballots cast in Bangladesh's parliamentary election are counted.

In its final report, the group is free to propose to the authorities any recommendations for change on institutional, procedural and other matters that could assist in future elections.

Dame Jennifer has been accompanied by head of the Bermuda Civil Service, Major Kenneth Dill.

All costs, including airfare, accommodation and a daily stipend are being paid by the Commonwealth Secretariat.
