FRIDAY, MAY 11: Brothers Jesse and Zander Kirkland won their second race of the Seiko 49er World Championship today in Zadar, Croatia as they moved up to fourth in the standings.

The brothers Kirkland won a race on the opening day. They picked up their second bullet in today’s first race in the Gold Fleet. For good measure they also finished third in the next race.

The third race wasn’t kind as they were black flagged, as were seven other boats.

They appear to be in a good position to be in Saturday’s final medal race, which will only include the top 10 boats from the Gold Fleet.

The brothers posted on their Facebook page: “Good day! 1-3BFD in another 6-10kt NW. Had some great speed today which enabled us to hang with the top guys.

“With two races scheduled for tomorrow, points are still agonizingly close and we are already sailing with our drop. Tomorrow’s a big points day.”

The brothers qualified on Wednesday to compete at the 2012 London Olympics by virtue of them being in the Gold Fleet.
